CAROLINA GRUNÉR
LANDSCAPES OF
THE SOUL

THE SAFE HAVEN COLLECTION

Painting has helped get me through the loneliest and toughest moments of my life. It has been like a hand holding me through it all. Showing me, through what comes out in the art, that no matter what I'm going through, no matter what I'm feeling, all is well; that it's all alright. It has been my safe haven, since day one. A gift given to me. To help me cope.
The first paintings of this collection came to be during three transitional days in early May. They were days of letting go of the old and of allowing emptiness for the new to step in.
It was the beginning of a new way of painting for me. Where my way of painting otherwise had been free, energetic, hands on, messy and full of movement, I now felt the strong need to, in a sense, pull it all back together. Of calming it all down; the movements, the expressions, the feelings, the sensations, the messiness...
From having used my hands a lot, I now stuck to brushes. Where the strokes otherwise would have been wild and free, I calmly and persistently pulled them back, creating shapes instead of wilderness. The process became experimental, fun; eager to see what was to come next.
Some of the paintings came with ease, others through many layers of wondering where, if anywhere, the process was going. (These "struggle" paintings turned out to become my personal favourites.)
For four months they poured out. Layer after layer. Holding my hand, through both tough and joyful moments.
Visibly calm. Visibly new. Visibly peaceful.
A safe haven - for the eyes, and for the soul.
I hope you enjoy.
Love, Carolina

ABOUT CAROLINA

Carolina Grunér (b.1982) is a self-taught painter from Finland and has been painting full time since 2013.

Carolina has become known for her use of pink, with works that have an air of both sensitivity and strength to them.
Her works are collected worldwide.
When painting, Carolina trusts the guidance of her intuition completely.
Painting, for her, is a continuous process of surrendering to the inspiration and daring to let go of the mind's needs and wants to control the outcome. Each painting and its process becoming a form of dialogue between the tangible and intangible.
Like landscapes of the soul.
